Texts that Matter is a project at the University of Mary Washington that explores and exposes the texts that matter to us as an intellectual community. Any member of the UMW community is invited to participate in the project by recording a text in the public domain that has impacted them in some meaningful way. In addition to submitting a recording, we ask participants to write and share a short essay explaining their personal connection to the text.
All essays and recordings will be available at our website: texts.umwblogs.org. In addition, all public domain recordings will be produced within the guidelines of the Librivox project and will be contributed back to that community. Librivox, which solicits volunteers to record and share texts in the public domain, can be found online at www.librivox.org.
On the Texts that Matter site, we will also invite anyone to comment upon and share their own reactions to the texts and their corresponding essays. We hope this site will become the nexus of a conversation about who we are as a teaching and learning community, and a place where we can share our common inspirations and explore new sources of inspiration together.
